Useful tips to know for using Korea Incheon Airport Railroad

The most common form of public transit foreigners use when travelling between downtown Seoul and Incheon International Airport (IIA) is the Incheon Airport Railroad (AREX) running between Seoul Station and IIA Station. IAR has many functions, services and useful information, which sets it apart from other subway trains.

First of all, Incheon Airport Railroad has the all-stop train, which stops at all 11 stations; and the express train, which runs nonstop between Seoul Station and IIA Station. Whereas the all-stop train has lateral seating arrangements, the express train is equipped with comfortable individual seats and plenty of storage space with no standing rooms. The staffs provide attentive services and there are restrooms onboard the train. It is therefore suited to individual travelling in the comfort of peace and quiet. The one-way fare between Seoul Station and IIA Station in an express train is 8,000 won per person, or 6,000 won when accompanied by more than four persons. The all-stop train is 3,950 won using transportation card.

Secondly, when departing from IIA on the Korean Air, Asiana Air or Jeju Air, it is convenient to use AREX at the City Airport Terminal at Seoul Station. You can receive a 10-minute, one-stop service without queuing for the departure process (check-in and immigration). This service is only provided when using the express train between Seoul Station and IIA Station. Those with international flight tickets from the Korean Air, Asiana Air or Jeju Air can receive a discount from 8,000 to 6,900 won. If accompanied by more than four persons, it is 6,000 won.

Thirdly, when moving to downtown Seoul via IIA, it is useful to know the transfer service between the Incehon Airport Railroad express train and taxi, which is offered at the travel center located 50 meters in front of the IIA Station. The service picks you up at Seoul Station after getting off the express train, and takes you to your destination onsite. The total cost of the express train ride and the taxi fare is 10,000 won per person.

Fourthly, Seoul Station’s AREX offers low commission charge for currency exchange. The Woori Bank currency exchange counter on the second basement level in front of the City Airport Terminal at Seoul Station provides the lowest rates in the country. It is much more cost-saving than exchanging money at the airport.
